Blending elements of indie rock, folk, and alternative music. Their sound is characterized by intricate guitar work, emotive vocals, and thought-provoking lyrics. They are also known for their dynamic live shows. Of their two EP's, it is their second release that represents their most accomplished and fully realized musical vision. Key tracks include the energetic and anthemic "40 Days," the hauntingly beautiful ballad "Girl with No Name," and the driving rhythm and introspective lyric of "Kneel." 

Formed in 2001 after the breakup of The Ordinary 5, Brent Mastel (vocals) began working on another musical project with Greg Sochko (lead guitar). With the addition of Keefe Russell (bass), Jonathan Chaffee (drums), Marc Wittenberg (guitar, vocals), and Paul James (keyboards) the new project was christened “The Weeds.”

Though there were other iterations of the band, this was the core group that wrote and recorded 2 EPs. In some ways the band carried on the spirit of the Ordinary 5, as Brent further developed and honed the melodic and lyrical stylings of that band's best work.  With the departure of Greg Sochko in 2017, the band carried on, with some of the members still writing and performing as “The Seaweeds.” You can check this iteration out at SeaWeeds (seaweedsband.com).
